WHAT The Filmmakers SAID
“What an honor to win the Rated SR Social Justice Award, at the Socially Relevant Film Festival NY,
a meaningful new festival imbued with contagious energy and vibrant atmosphere!
Our screening was completely sold out, the audience was really into the movie, and the wonderful staff
made everybody feel welcome every step of the way.
The inaugural edition of SR (Rated SR), created by its fabulous Artistic Director Nora Armani, has proved
to be an excellent platform in NYC for socially relevant films. Here’s to many other editions of this
genuine, fiercely independent, rapidly growing festival!”
Lorena Luciano - Filmmaker
Winner of the SR Social Justice Award in 2014 for the feature documentary Coal Rush that she directed with Filippo Piscopo.
"............... I had the great fortune to screen my documentary at the first edition of SR Film festival and it was a fantastic experience. The festival was very well organized, the staff friendly and helpful, and the festival’s Founding Artistic Director Nora Armani, welcoming and totally supportive. The film played at the iconic Quad Theatre in the West Village, where we had a packed screening followed by a wonderful Q&A.
A couple of months later, Nora selected 7 documentaries from the festival, including mine to be shown at the DocCorner at the Cannes Film Festival. A representative of Paris renowned Environmental International Film Festival noticed my doc, liked it and decided to include it in the 2015 edition of the festival.
This amazing opportunity would have never presented itself without the help and support of festival director Nora Armani. I couldn't be more grateful!"
