Job Description (Roles and Responsibilities)  

SR (™) Film Festival is an international non-profit film festival that offers educational opportunities and cultural relations in the entertainment field, specifically in the film industry. Our offices are located in the Upper West Side, close to Columbia University in New York City.  SRFF’s part-time temporary posts provide an opportunity for high quality work experience and learning in a multilingual, multicultural, international environment.  

The position will support the work of the Festival team which is responsible for managing submissions, connecting with filmmakers, assembling screening materials, fundraising and securing partnerships with foundations, corporations and businesses to support the Film Festival’s educational and entertainment  programs.

Main duties include:

  • Market Research: research US-based foundations and corporations that support initiatives in key areas of programming, including community engagement, women’s empowerment, education, youth leadership and sports for development.

  • Help with CRM (Salesforce) data input and organization, including maintaining partnerships contact database

  • Manage submissions by contacting pre-selected/selected filmmakers about screening information.

  • Manage issuing of new calls for entries for films and scripts, send out Letters Of Interest (LOI) to foundation websites and update in Salesforce Calendar

  • Support marketing and communications efforts of the festival partnerships and sponsorships team and help secure advertising space for the festival booklet (cash sponsorships and ads secured pay separate commission over and above the hourly pay rate).

  • Support with event planning and scheduling (events November 10, December 5, March 13-22)

  • General office support and other administrative duties as necessary.

Minimum Qualifications/Experience

  • A graduate level student, or graduate

  • Interest in film and media, social issues, international cultural affairs, international education and outreach

  • Interest in film exhibition, film festivals, and film distribution

  • Office/administrative work experience

  • Excellent communication, organizational and research skills

  • Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines

  • Ability to work in a small, fast-paced office

  • Evidence of successful team working

  • Positive attitude and independent work skills

  • Working knowledge of Google Docs, Word, Excel, and use of a CRM system (SalesForce) desirable

  • Additional skills: Video/film editing, duplication, and DVD burning, etc.

Other conditions of employment: All candidates will be asked for a letter of recommendation and at least one reference.  Copy of official ID will be requested after seeing original ID card.

Additional information:  

The temporary positions are for 20 hours per week through the end of March 2020.  Hours are flexible, subject to mutual agreement, and require being in the office at least two days in the week for 8 hours each with the remaining 4 hours to be used as floating hours to finish up on work, or answer urgent emails. The hourly rate is $15.50 to increase to $16.00 after 8 weeks.

  • Part-Time Seasonal Production Manager 

 

The position will include general administrative and production work such as contact with the festival partners and sponsors, supervising film submissions, following up on deliverables, organising the industry panels by getting in touch with the industry partners on board, budgeting the festival's annual expenses, getting in touch with venues, helping in the selection and programming of the films, connecting with our international jury, and other ongoing tasks necessary for a smooth operation.

 

Languages and international know-how are desirable. Taking initiative and working independently are definitely encouraged. Ideally suited for a film student, communications graduate, or retiree. We are open to all candidates who are reliable, passionate and responsible.

Hours are flexible, and performance is judged on the timely completion of assignments and the delivery of results. 

Position starts immediately. Pay is negotiable, based on skills and experience. Further incentives complement the base hourly rate.

  • Internships Opportunities

Great opportunity for students, or anyone interested in film, socially relevant topics and/or volunteering in a film festival setting.

 

Currently recruiting key volunteers and interns to start immediately. Most work is done remotely, but 1-2 regular meetings are required every week. Students and/or experienced and skilled retirees and administrative assistants, marketing and social media specialists are most welcome. Other areas include filmmaker contacts, administrative tasks and organization. Presence during the festival in March is important.

 

We expect interns to:

- Be responsible & self-motivated

- Have an interest in film and socially relevant issues

- Have excellent interpersonal skills and creative thinking

- Be available for a minimum of 3 months starting December.

- Commit to at least 10-12 hours / week

- Have knowledge of database and other mailing list management

- Have expertise in Word, Excel, Google Docs, social media outlets.

 

We prefer (but do not require):

- Previous experience in events management

- Previous experience in fundraising

- Experience and/or contacts in the film, hospitality and media industries (film & non-profit)

- Ability to solicit paid advertising space for booklet (commission paid on secured ads)
