What is SR?  

 

SR Socially Relevant™ Film Festival New York is a film festival that focuses on socially relevant film content, and human interest stories that raise awareness to social problems and offer positive solutions through the powerful medium of cinema. SR believes that through raised awareness, expanded knowledge about diverse cultures, and the human condition as a whole, it is possible to create a better world free of violence, hate, and crime.

is to shine the spotlight on filmmakers 
who tell compelling, socially relevant, 
human interest

stories across a broad range of social issues 

without resorting to gratuitous violence 

or violent forms of film making.

 

SR - Socially Relevant Films concentrate on human interest stories, character driven situations, and good storytelling without the need to rely on gratuitous violence, crime, and violent forms of storytelling.

   

SR films can be commercially viable and can become box office successes if made well and distributed through the proper channels and platforms. SR films are enlightening, uplifting, entertaining, but most of all artistically appealing.

 

 

SR Socially Relevant Film Festival New York aims at be the catalyst in helping production move towards  broader Socially Relevant content in films through:

 

  • Showcasing filmmakers and helping them develop new films that address socially relevant topics in an entertaining manner designed to reach a wider audience.

 

  • Fostering industry professionals and taste makers to effect change by showing that SR films can be entertaining, funny, enlightening, uplifting, appealing and when made well even commercially viable.

 

  • Identifying socially relevant content and reaching new audiences by using online social media and other marketing strategies.

 

  • Assisting sales and distribution companies in selecting socially relevant content and distributing it.

 

  • Establishing international partnerships (with film festivals, film commissions, industry partners) in order to support a currently underserved style of motion pictures in the marketplace.
